APRIL
Friday 2nd April - Virtual on-line Wine Tasting.
We have a great event for you to start the Club year with a bang following the Governments road map. This is a members and friends only event. Taste of Freedom! Following Boris's announcement, and freedom being just around the corner, we wanted to give you a little taste of that freedom and have therefore united with Nethergate wines to provide our members with their very own virtual wine tasting evening.
Please join Charles Eaton from Nethergate Wines for a relaxed and enjoyable evening with wine at 7.00pm and meet up with your fellow club members on-line. This occasion will be via Zoom with us all enjoying the tasting from the comfort of our home.
The tasting will comprise of 4 bottles of quality wines, 2 white wines and 2 reds from around the world. You could accompany the tasting with your own salami, Prosciutto and a selection of cheeses. Charles suggests:
1. A mild goat’s cheese.
2. Brie
3. Mid weight cheese – Manchego or Cornish Yarg.
4. Full flavoured hard cheese or a blue cheese.
The wine only tasting boxes will be delivered to the Club by 13h00 on Tuesday 30th March for collection by you.

Come and join us between 11.00 – 4.00 pm on the Club Terrace under cover and just in case, we have warm cushions, blankets and electric heating for a Al Fresco experience.

Thursday 1st July - Speakers Lunch - The True cost of Fish & Chips
Fishing remains the most dangerous peacetime occupation. We all love our traditional fish and chips but do we ever spare a thought for the men and women who risk their lives to bring home the harvest of the sea? The Fishermen’s Mission is a 139 year old charity caring for our UK fishermen, their families and communities. Andy Malcolm, the Fishermen’s Mission East of England
Regional Fundraising Manager presents a talk looking at the life of our fishermen and the charity that cares for them. We will also investigate the history and trivia of fish and chips, tackle a short fishy quiz, enjoy some sea poetry and throw in a sea shanty or two for a truly fishy lunch!

Thursday 15th July - Speakers Lunch - Charles Garland Dad’s Army
Charles was assistant to David Croft OBE and Jimmy Perry OBE for more than twenty years. He is a television producer, director and writer, who delivers a fascinating, and predictably amusing talk. It includes anecdotes and personal insights about the writers, the cast, and what sets Dad’s Army apart from the rest of the TV comedy archive.

Thursday 29th July - Barge River Orwell & Stour Trip
A great chance to get the best views of the rivers Orwell, Stour, and the Walton backwaters. Board Victor from her usual berth in front of the Old Custom House 8.45 am.

Thursday 5th August - Speakers Lunch - Secret British Resistance
Peter Senior is Chairman of Parham Airfield Memorial Museum. Parham has the only museum nationally that tells the story of the "stay behinds", the British Resistance Organisation whose preparations for fighting the expected Nazi invasion from behind the lines remained an official secret until 1994. Peter will tell us the story of the auxiliers and the USAF 390th bomb group, and explain how their history became intertwined in the museum that can be visited today."

Charles Brookson will take you into the connected world and what it means for your privacy. In this day and age everything is connected, and much of it is insecure. This talk looks at who is looking, why and how and what you can do about it.

SEPT
Thursday 2nd September - Speakers Lunch - Hugh Belsey Thomas Gainsborough
Hugh Belsey is one of the foremost authorities on British eighteenth-century art. After studying at the universities of Manchester and Birmingham he became Curator of Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury, a post he held for twenty-three years. During his time there the collections were transformed and when he left he was awarded an MBE. In February 2019 Yale University Press published his two-volume catalogue of portraits by the artist. He was recently introduced as ‘This is
Hugh Belsey who knows more about Thomas Gainsborough than he did himself’. Hugh was a star on the following BBC fake or fortune show.

Thursday 16th September - Speakers Lunch – Climate Change on the Suffolk Coast
Alexander Bass with illustrated slideshow and talk looks at a range of habitats in Suffolk that are under threat from Coastal erosion due to climate change and rising sea levels. He also focuses on some of the vulnerable birds, plants and butterflies that are already being effected by such habitat loss and climate change.
